من مواليد مصر عام 1945 محافظة الشرقية/ مدينة بلبيس.
تخرج من جامعة الأسكندرية كلية الهندسة عام1969.
ـ عمل في الصحافة خلال فترة السبعينات ،في عدد من الصحف الأهلية في
أبو ظبي .
ـ كتب عن الجهاد الأفغاني وشارك فية منذ عام 1979 قبل التدخل السوفيتي .
ـ في 1985 أقام مع أسرته في باكستان . وعمل هناك مديراً لمكتب صحيفة الإتحاد الظبيانية حتي عام 1986 .
ـ أقام في أفغانستان منذ عام 1993 وحتي الحملة الأمريكية عام 2001م .
ـ تعرف عن قرب علي عدد من الشخصيات العربية الهامة التي عملت في القضية الأفغانية مثل الدكتورعبدالله عزام وتميم العدناني وأسامة بن لادن الذي يعتبره صديقاً شخصياً له .
ـ له مجموعة من الكتب لم تنشر جميعها . وتدور حول تجربة العرب في الجهاد الأفغاني ، الذي عاصره منذ بدايته وحتي نهايته .
ـ تعرف عن قرب علي حركة طالبان ، وأميرها الملا محمد عمر ، وربطته بهم
علاقة طيبة .
ـ من قندهار عمل مراسلاً لقناة الجزيرة القطرية لمدة عام ، إلي ما قبل الحرب
الأمريكية علي أفغانستان .
